Why go to church?

A friend from church and I were reminsicing about our Roman Catholic child hoods.

David Markham: Remember when they told us we had to go to church on Sunday or it was a mortal sin and we would go to hell?

Karen L: (Smiles and nods)

David Markham: Maybe the UUs should have something like this so people will come to church.

Karen L.: Well, I don't think that's necessary. People should go to church because they realize that someone there might need them.

David Markham: What?

Karen L.: People should go to church because they realize that somebody there might need them.

David Markham: Wow, that's great! I never thought of it like that.

In a covenantal church I do need you. I want to see you and hear from you and know that you are there for me, for us. It is important. Woody Allen said that 80% of success in life is showing up. All you have to do is show up, and your presence will make our part of the world a little better place.
