Question of the day

Do you need to be right about things or can you take a position of relaxed curiosity?

  1. The need to be right is a misguided attempt to preserve the ego and maintain power in a relationship and group. The inability to admit when one is wrong or not sure is a sign of wisdom and humility. UUs have given up the requirement of allegiance to a creed and adherence to orthodoxy. Their championing of an "any thing goes" openness is often misinterpreted as a lack of moral fiber and character. This often leads to petty bickering and the idea that each person's opinion and preference is as good as anyone' elses. This attitude has crippled the denomination in not only its growth, but even its maintaining what small membership it has.
