Marriage is a covenant isn't it? I covenanted with my wife. I have been involved in three UU churches but never felt much of a covenant with anybody in any of them. The unspoken vibe was every person for him/herself. Maybe it was me, but I never felt there was much bonding. Perhaps it is because it is so easy to gain admission to a UU church. You really don't have to do anything but "sign the book." Nothing seems to be required and not much expected. The covenantal bonds in the churches I have been members of seem extremely lose and barely existing. Same way people just drop in and out with no explanation or concern from much of anybody. Again maybe it's me, but as I have observed it seems pretty much the same for everyone except the inner most clique.
