We have a simple choice between the ego and Spirit.

When you are tempted by the wrong voice, call on me to remind you how to heal by sharing my decision and making it stronger. As we share this goal, we increase its power to attract the whole Sonship, and to bring it back into the oneness in which it was created. Remember that “yoke” means “join together,” and “burden” means “message.” Let us restate “My yoke is easy and my burden light” in this way; “Let us join together, for my message is light.”

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition. T-5.II.11: 1 - 4

We are reminded in this paragraph of A Course In Miracles that we have a choice: ego or Spirit. Ego is about conditional love and Spirit is about unconditional love. Jesus chose Unconditional Love and demonstrated that this choice is possible living in the world of the ego.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote justice, equity, and compassion in human relations. Jesus taught that this joining with others is easy and the message of Unconditional Love brings light into the world.

Today, it is suggested that we remind ourselves of our choice between the ego and Spirit and we can ask ourselves continually “What would love have me do?”

Wake up and love whoever crosses your path.

Rest does not come from sleeping but from waking. The Holy Spirit is the Call to awaken and be glad. The world is very tired, because it is the idea of weariness. Our task is the joyous one of waking it to the Call for God. Everyone will answer the Call of the Holy Spirit, or the Sonship cannot be as One. What better vocation could there be for any part of the Kingdom than to restore it to the perfect integration that can make it whole? Hear only this through the Holy Spirit within you, and teach your brothers to listen as I am teaching you. T-5.II.10: 4 - 10

The Integral philosophers describe “growing up,” and “waking up.” Growing up is the biological process of maturing and “waking up” is related to an elevation of consciousness. As human beings we grow up during our life cycle, but waking up is induced by our cultural and individual curiosity. Jesus woke up and asks us to join him by following his example in the waking up process. Jesus tells us that we all have a calling for God and the Holy Spirit calls to us to awaken but it’s up to us whether we choose to get out of bed. If we choose to get out of bed it is suggested that we ask our brothers and sisters to awaken and get out of bed and join us.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the acceptance of one another and the encouragement to spiritual growth.

Today, it is suggested that we choose to enter the path of waking up. We do this by practicing loving one another. Who should I love? Whoever crosses your path today.

The light of the world.

I have assured you that the Mind that decided for me is also in you, and that you can let it change you just as it changed me. This Mind is unequivocal, because it hears only one Voice and answers in only one way. You are the light of the world with me. T-5.II.10: 1 - 3

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world along with him because we can join with him in listening to the Voice of the Mind which animates all of Creation.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. This search takes us eventually to the Mind of Creation. It is called the “light of the world.”

Today, it is suggested that we stop our business and look within for the Light of the Word. Jesus taught us that the way is “to love as I have loved.”

We have a choice to make: God or ego?

My mind will always be like yours, because we were created as equals. It was only my decision that gave me all power in Heaven and earth. My only gift to you is to help you make the same decision. This decision is the choice to share it, because the decision itself is the decision to share. It is made by giving, and is therefore the one choice that resembles true creation. I am your model for decision. By deciding for God I showed you that this decision can be made, and that you can make it. T-5.II.9: 1 - 7

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

The Jesus of A Course In Miracles tells us that we are just like him. He came to teach us to make the decision for God instead of the ego. He asks us to share this decision for God and not the ego with others. Jesus tells us that making the decision for God resembles true creation. This decision for God facilitates the development of our spiritual intelligence which has beneficial consequences for us and those we interact with.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the acceptance of one another and the encouragement to spiritual growth.

Today, it is suggested that we be aware of our choice to decide for God or the ego. When we choose God we release an energy which is creative for ourselves and others. In doing so we demonstrate that we have learned the lesson that Jesus intended to teach us by modeling the possibility.

What do we value more: ego or Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the way in which God’s Will is done on earth as it is in Heaven. Both Heaven and earth are in you, because the call of both is in your mind. The Voice for God comes from your own altars to Him. These altars are not things; they are devotions. Yet you have other devotions now. Your divided devotion has given you the two voices, and you must choose at which altar you want to serve. The call you answer now is an evaluation because it is a decision. The decision is very simple. It is made on the basis of which call is worth more to you. T-5.II.8: 4 - 12

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

This passage in ACIM points out again that we have a split mind. Part of our mind serves the earth of the ego and part of our mind serves Spirit in Heaven. We are reminded again that we have a choice which part of our mind we will utilize for service. This choice is based on which part of our mind we prize more.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person. This worth and dignity does not arise from the ego but from the Spirit.

Today, it is suggested that we reflect on our choice. What has greater value to us: the ego or Spirit?

Body or soul? Ego or Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is your Guide in choosing. He is in the part of your mind that always speaks for the right choice, because He speaks for God. He is your remaining communication with God, which you can interrupt but cannot destroy. T-5.II.8: 1 - 3

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

We can choose to listen or not to listen. It is our choice: ego or Spirit?

Unitarian Universalists covenant together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. UUs teach that people are free to choose which voice they want to listen to. However, UUs also affirm and promote that we should use our freedom responsibly. What does “responsible” mean? We can respond to the voice of the ego or the voice of Spirit. The choice is between our body and our soul.

Today, we recognize and acknowledge that we are not victims but have a choice to which voice we listen to, prize, and act on. At any given decision point what will we choose?

What does it profit a person: the whole world or the soul?

Peace is stronger than war because it heals. War is division, not increase. No one gains from strife. What profiteth it a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul? If you listen to the wrong voice you have lost sight of your soul. You cannot lose it, but you can not know it. It is therefore “lost” to you until you choose right. T-5.II.7:8 - 13

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

The ego is a powerful seducer. It fills us with desire, fear, guilt, anger, arrogance and we lose sight of our soul. What does it profit a person if they gain the whole world but lose their soul?

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the search for truth and meaning. This truth and meaning is not to be found in the world of the ego. Is truth and meaning to be found in war? Many believe this is so and yet suffering, turmoil, guilt, and sadness arise. We yearn for peace but don’t know where to find it. Peace is to be found in unconditional love and joining not in conditional love and divisiveness.

Today, it is suggested that we reflect on what we truly want: war or peace, conditional love or unconditional love, the idols of the ego or  the fruits of Spirit?
