From whence does joy come?

The sermon yesterday was entitled "Embracing joy." Both the children's sermon and the one for adults struggled to define and describe the concept.

Here's the deal.

Osho teaches that there is pleasure, happiness, joy, and bliss.

Pleasure is scratching the itch.

Happiness is having fun.

Joy is an over all sense of well being.

Bliss is awakening to being one with the All.

Christmas is a season of joy. We sing "Joy To The World." Why? "Because the Lord has come."

Jesus has come to tell us that the way to the kingdom is to "love as I have loved." Joy comes from knowing that no matter what, we are loved.

What is the proof for the fact that we are loved? Just ask yourself what are you grateful for? Name three things that you are grateful for every day, and you will become more aware of the joy in your life.

The children's sermon used the metaphor of a "joy jar" into which things of joy are inserted and kept. The "joy jar" is a gratitude jar.  Write down three things every day you are grateful for on little slips of paper and put them in your "joy jar." Take them out once a month and review them and watch the joy increase magnanimously in your life.

Enhance your joyful heart. The world needs more joyful hearts.
