Ask for help in discerning God’s will from the Holy Spirit.

You have not made truth, but truth can still set you free. Look as the Holy Spirit looks, and understand as He understands. His understanding looks back to God in remembrance of me. He is in communion with God always, and He is part of you. He is your Guide to salvation, because He holds the remembrance of things past and to come, and brings them to the present. He holds this gladness gently in your mind, asking only that you increase it in His Name by sharing it to increase His joy in you. T-5.III.11: 5 - 10

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

As human beings who have separated ourselves from the non dual Oneness, we don’t make the truth with our illusions and perceptions. We can attempt to discern it with the help of the Holy Spirit, the Muse, Mother Nature, our Higher Power, whatever we choose to call your Transcendent Source.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. “Responsible” means that we are responsive to the intuitive inspiration which indwells in our minds which we can access simply by asking for help.

Today, it is suggested that we ask the Holy Spirit for help in discerning God’s will for us and one another.

Seek to make the component parts holy.

The ego made the world as it perceives it, but the Holy Spirit, the reinterpreter of what the ego made, sees the world as a teaching device for bringing you home. The Holy Spirit must perceive time, and reinterpret it into the timeless. He must work through opposites, because He must work with and for a mind that is in opposition. T-5.III.11: 1 - 3

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

It is written in the introduction to A Course In Miracles, “It is a required course, Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.” And so the world of the ego is a teaching device which the Holy Spirit can use to bring us back to the non dual Oneness of God where there is no separation. The opposites of the yin and yang are synthesized into Oneness.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the interdependent web of all existence where component parts are transcended into a unified whole which we describe as “holiness.”

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to help you unify the parts into the whole so it becomes holy.

We have a choice and if we choose wrong we can choose again.

The Holy Spirit is the perfect Teacher. He uses only what your mind already understands to teach you that you do not understand it. The Holy Spirit can deal with a reluctant learner without going counter to his mind, because part of it is still for God. Despite the ego’s attempts to conceal this part, it is still much stronger than the ego, although the ego does not recognize it. The Holy Spirit recognizes it perfectly because it is His Own dwelling place; the place in the mind where He is at home. You are at home there, too, because it is a place of peace, and peace is of God. You who are part of God are not at home except in His peace. If peace is eternal, you are at home only in eternity. T-5.III.10: 1 - 8

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

The ego mind does not want us to become aware of Spirit. Spirit is threatening to the ego because unconditional love of Spirit is contradictory to conditional love of the ego. We yearn for unconditional love and sense that this is how God loves us in spite of what the ego mind tells us. When we get in touch with the Divine Spark of unconditional love we experience great peace and joy.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. The end of this search is the awareness of unconditional love as the Universalists taught us.

Today, we reflect on our choice between ego and Spirit. Will we choose a world of conditional love or unconditional love? It is liberating to know that we have a choice and if we choose wrong, we can always choose again.

Which do you choose: illusions of the ego or the Beatific Vision?

Perception derives meaning from relationships. Those you accept are the foundations of your beliefs. The separation is merely another term for a split mind. The ego is the symbol of separation, just as the Holy Spirit is the symbol of peace. What you perceive in others you are strengthening in yourself. You may let your mind misperceive, but the Holy Spirit lets your mind reinterpret its own misperceptions. T-5.III.9: 1 - 6

The bumper sticker says, “Perception is reality.” Another bumper sticker says, “Reality doesn’t care anything about your beliefs.” Human beings engage in what psychologists call “confirmation bias” and A Course In Miracles asks “Would you rather be right or be happy?”

Unitarian Universalists join together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. In this search, sooner or later, the seeker comes to realize that truth and meaning are not to be found in one’s perceptions of things in the world of the ego. The seeker becomes aware that truth and meaning are to be found in contemplation of the transcendent which is found within.

Today, question your perceptions and recognize that they are illusions. You are watching the shadows on Plato’s cave wall. Strive to rise above the cave and recognize the peace and joy that comes from the Beatific Vision.

We need not think alike to love alike.

You cannot understand yourself alone. This is because you have no meaning apart from your rightful place in the Sonship, and the rightful place of the Sonship is God. This is your life, your eternity and your Self. It is of this that the Holy Spirit reminds you. It is this that the Holy Spirit sees. This vision frightens the ego because it is so calm. Peace is the ego’s greatest enemy because, according to its interpretation of reality, war is the guarantee of its survival. The ego becomes strong in strife. If you believe there is strife you will react viciously, because the idea of danger has entered your mind. The idea itself is an appeal to the ego. The Holy Spirit is as vigilant as the ego to the call of danger, opposing it with His strength just as the ego welcomes it. The Holy Spirit counters this welcome by welcoming peace. Eternity and peace are as closely related as are time and war. T-5.III.8: 1  -  13

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

The ego loves strife and conflict because strife and conflict justify and expand its existence. The Holy Spirit rises above strife and conflict and brings the peace of being a part of something larger, transcendent, and all encompassing. Would you have strife and conflict or peace and joy? If you choose peace and joy, the ego has to be encapsulated and eliminated.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the interdependent web of existence which is beyond our individual self and encompasses the Ground Of Being.

Today, give up strife and conflict. We need not think alike to love alike. Ask yourself, “What would love have me do?”

In which world do we want to live: the world of the ego or the world of Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the Mediator between the interpretations of the ego and the knowledge of the spirit. T-5.III.7: 1

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

Jesus told his disciples to be in the world but not of the world. We live in the world of the ego, but, if we choose, be of the world of Spirit. The Holy Spirit, teaches A Course In Miracles, is the Mediator between these two worlds and will help us navigate them if we ask.

Unitarian Universalists join together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning which is permission, encouragement and support to navigate the world of the ego and the world of Spirit.

The world of the ego is a world of conditional love while the world of Spirit is a world of unconditional love. Today, we have a choice in which world we want to live.
