Who says nonviolence doesn't work?

Captain Thomas Beall has an excellent article on his blog, Living The Prophetic Imperative, posted 12/29/09. It is well worth reading and taking to heart. Would that more Unitarian Universalists and other people of faith take its message seriously. You can access it by clicking here.

  1. doesn't work?

could you be a little specific? We're a pragmatic faith and what works an important question... what works to what ends though?

The outcome decides for pragmatic people. So Goals and Outcomes and Evidence please....

  2. Dear Bill:

    The end justifies the means?

    What is war for?

    What was Viet Nam for?

    What is Iraq for?

    What is Afghanistan war for?

What in hell is a war on terror?

Is it like a war on drugs? A war on poverty?

The war metaphor is an interesting one but I would guess not as practical as you might hope for.

I get mad and I could hit people. I could kill them sometimes. It would be very practical in eliminating my annoyance and irritation. Sometimes people fighten me and I would like to kill them just so they no longer pose a threat.

I have a sneaking feeling that you wouldn't justify my very practical plan. Iknow the law wouldn't. But you know the very things that are illegal for individuals, families, groups, and communities are perfectly legal even if immoral at a national level. I never quite understood that do you?

  3. BTW In a somewhat waggish, but also somewhat serious, questioning answer to the question posed in your blog post title. . .

Can U*Us say Mona "The Hammer" Shaw? :-)
