A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson #54 - The search for Truth and Meaning
Lesson #54
Review of lessons 16-20
16. I have no neutral thoughts.
17. I see no neutral things.
18. I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing.
19. I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts.
20. I am determined to see.
No human is an island. We all are interdependent whether we want to recognize it and admit it or not. There is no such thing as the American myth of the “self made man.” We are a product of our culture, of our language, of our thoughts, or our stories, of all the people who have helped us survive and thrive..
Do you wake up in the morning and like yourself and the world you are living in or don’t like yourself and don’t like the world you are living in? The answer to this question determines the course of your day.
Step ten in Alcoholics Anonymous encourages us to continue to take a personal inventory and when there is a problem promptly admit it. Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living, and the satirical bumper sticker says that the unlived life is not worth examining. The lessons we are reviewing today remind us that our sense of reality is a product of our thoughts and when they are focused on the things in the world of the ego there will inevitably be big problems. We come to the realization that there must be a better way which is called “the dawning” and this, then leads to “the search” for what this better way might be.
Unitarian Universalists covenant together to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equity, and compassion in human relations; the free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
When we are determined to see, the authentic search for Truth and Meaning is undertaken.
My kind of church music.

A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson #53, Review of lessons 11 - 15
Lesson #53
Review of lessons 11 - 15
11. My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world.
12. I am upset because I see a meaningless world.
13. A meaningless world engenders fear.
14. God did not create a meaningless world.
15. My thoughts are images that I have made.
Anxiety disorders are the most frequently diagnosed psychiatric illnesses in the United States. To what extent is anxiety caused by meaningless thoughts which show us a meaningless world and this lack of meaning causes fear? It makes one wonder to what extent anxiety disorders are a spiritual problem?
The first step of Alcoholics Anonymous is that we admit our life is unmanageable. You probably have heard the joke, “If you want to hear God laugh, tell God your plans.” Have we been looking for love in all the wrong places?
The fourth principle of Unitarian Universalism is the affirmation and promotion of the free and responsible search for truth and meaning and where should this search take us if we are to find the peace and bliss we yearn for? The fourteenth lesson gives us a clue when it teaches that “God did not create a meaningless world.” Perhaps we have wandered from the path of Spirit onto the path of ego and it is the idols of the ego which are engendering anxiety because we are beginning to realize that obtaining them is not satisfying and seeking our happiness in them is futile. It is the growing futility and consequent distress which is causing the rise in our anxiety.
Perhaps not knowing yet where to search, we nonetheless have at least have learned that my meaningless thoughts being focused on the path of the ego are showing me a meaningless world and I would be well advised to seek elsewhere.

Good news for 10/05/20 - Most people infected with Covid-19 recover
- Most people with COVID-19 recover. Estimates now suggest that 99% of people infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 will recover. Some people have no symptoms at all. And while thousands of people have died, the overall death rate is about 1% (or perhaps even lower), far less than MERS (about 34%), SARS (about 11%), or Ebola (90%), though higher than the average seasonal flu (0.1%).The loss of life related to this illness is terrible and far more cases are expected, but based on the fatality rates alone, it could be far worse.
