The choice is between Spirit and ego.

When you are fearful, you have chosen wrongly. That is why you feel responsible for it. You must change your mind, not your behavior, and this is a matter of willingness. You do not need guidance except at the mind level. Correction belongs only at the level where change is possible. Change does not mean anything at the symptom level, where it cannot work. T-2.VI.3:2-7

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

It is written in the introduction to the Course, “The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.” When we are fearful we have chosen the body and the ego over the Spirit and the unconditional love of God. As it is often said in the Course, “Choose again.”

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step eleven, that we improve our conscious contact with God through prayer and meditation.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person. In this affirmation and promotion there is nothing to fear.

Today, when we are afraid, we are asked to choose again. This choice is between conditional love and unconditional love. The choice is between Spirit and ego.

It’s not what you do but how you think that is important.

You may believe that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think. You cannot separate yourself from the truth by “giving” autonomy to behavior. This is controlled by me automatically as soon as you place what you think under my guidance. Whenever you are afraid, it is a sure sign that you have allowed your mind to miscreate and have not allowed me to guide it. T-2.VI.2:5-10

A Course In Miracles is a course in mind training. It’s not what you think but how you think that is important. Do you think in alignment with the world of Spirit or the world of ego? Jesus suggests that we place what we think under His guidance. Jesus further suggests that we can tell when we have failed to place our thinking under His guidance because we will experience fear.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step three. that we make a decision to turn our will and lives over to the care of God as we understand God.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. Responsible means that we turn our thinking over to our Higher Power whatever we understand our Higher Power to be.

Today, it is suggested that we pay attention to and correct our thinking and our behavior will take care of itself.

Looking for the Divine Spark in every person.

This is because healing rests on charity, and charity is a way of perceiving the perfection of another even if you cannot perceive it in yourself. T-2,V,9:4

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

One of the key virtues in Christianity is “caritas” which is a Latin word translated in English as “charity.” Charity, though, often is used in the context of giving financial gifts to a person or organization in need.

In the Course, “charity” is defined as seeing the innate perfection in others, their inherent worth and dignity as the Unitarian Universalists name it in their first principle.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested in step twelve that we carry our spiritual awakening to others. This often happens when we don’t completely experience our spiritual awakening within ourselves.

Today, we will look for the Divine Spark in every person we encounter.

Something's wrong at the UUA

The Unitarian Universalist Association has taken to banning books and censoring people who disagree with their policies in spite of their covenantal principal to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

For more click here.

The UUA lost its way several years ago when it changed focus to a social justice agenda. Social justice is not the mission of Unitarian Universalism, facilitating spiritual development is.

What ultimately are we afraid of?

Corrective learning always begins with the awakening of spirit, and the turning away from the belief in physical sight. This often entails fear, because you are afraid of what your spiritual sight will show you. I said before that the Holy Spirit cannot see error, and is capable only of looking beyond it to the defense of Atonement. There is no doubt that this may produce discomfort, yet the discomfort is not the final outcome of the perception. When the Holy Spirit is permitted to look upon the defilement of the altar, He also looks immediately toward the Atonement. Nothing He perceives can induce fear. Everything that results from spiritual awareness is merely channelized toward correction. Discomfort is aroused only to bring the need for correction into awareness.T-2.V.7:1-8

A Course In Miracles, if taken seriously, will frighten the hell out of people. Why? Because it is a mind training course that suggests that a person give up their ego and surrender to the will of God.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step three, that we make a decision to turn our willfulness over to the will of God. When considering this suggestion, resistance arises which is extremely powerful and blocks, if not rejects, this suggestion. Only when people hit bottom do they consider the idea that their lives, on their own, are unmanageable and that there is a better way.

In Unitarian Universalism, people join together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search of truth and meaning. This truth and meaning is to be found within the life of the spirit in the mind not in the external world of the ego.

Today, it is suggested that we recognize and acknowledge our fear of the dissolution of our egos. How do we manage this fear? With growing faith in the unconditional love of our Transcendent Source. It is with this faith that we can master our ultimate fear.

Ultimately, what we have to offer is our own state of being.

The sole responsibility of the miracle worker is to accept the Atonement for himself. This means you recognize that mind is the only creative level, and that its errors are healed by the Atonement. Once you accept this, your mind can only heal. T-2.V.5:1-3

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

The Atonement is the healing of the separation of humans from God. The Atonement means that we recognize, acknowledge, and accept our Oneness with our Transcendent Source. This requires that we drop our egos which terrifies us. Thus, it is said that humans are afraid of love.

Once we accept and join with the Unconditional Love of God we radiate a healing presence to others.

It is suggested in Alcoholics Anonymous, in step twelve, that we, having had a spiritual awakening, carry it to others. We do this by our presence with our own state of being.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote a free and responsible search for truth and meaning, and this search will first take us to fear and consternation when we realize that we have to give up our egos if we are to find what we are looking for. On the other side of this fear and consternation is great peace and joy as we become one with the All.

Today, it is suggested that we manage our fears by detaching from our egos and realize the peace and security that comes from residing in the Tao.
