Catholic Church afraid of truth. Tries to obstruct the free and responsible search for truth and meaning

From Washtingtom Post

VATICAN CITY -- Newly released U.S. diplomatic cables indicate that the Vatican felt "offended" that Ireland failed to respect Holy See "sovereignty" by asking high-ranking churchmen to answer questions from an Irish commission probing decades of sex abuse of minors by clergy.

That the Holy See used its diplomatic-immunity status as a tiny city-state to try to thwart the Irish fact-finding probe has long been known. But the WikiLeaks cables, published by Britain's The Guardian newspaper on Saturday, contain delicate, behind-the-scenes diplomatic assessments of the highly charged situation.

  1. The hierarchy of the Catholic Church are great liars and they love to cover things up to save face and cover their behinds. They have been doing this for centuries. That's the reason the church is dying among intelligent first world peoples.

If they would only preach and practice the teachings of Jesus but they have the magisterium to protect.

  2. They were offended. Wow. My impression is that the Irish people don't care that the Vatican was offended. They have already left the church in droves.

My question though is how many Vatican reps have registered diplomatic status in Ireland? In the US? If a person is not registered as a foreign diplomat, they don't get the kid-glove treatment on the basis of "sovereignty" issues.

And unlike an Embassy, which counts as the soil of the country it represents, diocesan offices are not Vatican territory.

  3. And it is not like the Unitarian*Universalist Church isn't similarly afraid of truth and even quite desperately tries to obstruct the free and responsible search for truth and meaning, to say nothing of obstructing justice, equity and compassion in human relations. . . even to the point of having a peaceful public protester falsely arrested on completely bogus criminal charges that he was subsequently rightly acquitted of. Unitarian*Universalists should be ashamed of the ridiculous and outrageously hypocritical lengths that the UUA and Unitarian Church of Montreal have gone to to try to suppress the truth and obstruct justice. Especially in light of the fact that they seem to want to repeat shameful Unitarian*Universalist history that they have apparemtly failed to learn from. . .
