  1. This points to the fifth principle of UU which is the right of individual conscience. A person, to be a real person, must be conscious of the dynamics of the group especially governments which have agendas and power quite antithetical to the well being of their citizens in spite of the propaganda they spread. These soldiers acted as conscientious objectors, at least for 24 hrs., and could have been considered traitors and engaging in treason, the penalty for which can be execution and death. Eisenhower killed Eddie Slovik in 1945 to make him a lesson.
