Today, January 4, is the feast day of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton who died in 1921 at the age of 46. She is the first native born American to be canonized a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.

There is a Catholic parish in Hamlin, NY started back in the 80s when many other Catholic churches were closed. It is affectionately known as SEAS. It has a reputation of being a wonderful congregation.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth was a powerful, strong woman. She must have started her Catholic school in Boston when the Unitarians were in the majority there. I hope the Catholics and the Unitarians were mutually supportive, but in those days there was a great deal more religious chauvinism and exclusionary practices were common as is mentioned in the video.
