The out of body experience is the realization that you are not a body but a mind and as a mind part of the Oneness which has no space, no time, no limitations.

It's a funny joke because it takes the profound and makes it mundane, and when the hot dog vendor fails to give the monk change for this $5.00 bill for the $1.50 hot dog and the monk complains, the hot dog vendor says "Oh monk, you should know more than anyone that change comes from within."
