I choose the second place to gain the first.
Jesus said that the first shall be last and the last shall be first. What does this mean? One meaning is that if I insist on my willfulness I’ll bring pain and suffering onto myself, but if I choose to align my will with God’s will for me, I will gain peace and bliss.
In Alcoholic Anonymous it is suggested, in step eleven, that we improve our conscious contact with God as we understand our Higher Power. The will of our Higher Power becomes the moral compass that we use to orient ourselves on our journey through life.
In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning which is to be found in discerning God’s will for us. Being willing to set our own will aside and discern God’s will for us is the name of the game.
Today it is suggested that we choose the second place to gain the first which means that we give up our own will to follow God’s will for us.
