Loving the way God does.

Thoughts begin in the mind of the thinker, from which they reach outward. This is as true of God’s Thinking as it is of yours. Because your mind is split, you can perceive as well as think. Yet perception cannot escape the basic laws of mind. You perceive from your mind and project your perceptions outward. Although perception of any kind is unreal, you made it and the Holy Spirit can therefore use it well. He can inspire perception and lead it toward God. This convergence seems to be far in the future only because your mind is not in perfect alignment with the idea, and therefore does not want it now. T-6.II.9:1-7

The slogans “Perception is reality” and “Be careful what you wish for or are afraid of because that’s what you’ll get.” In psychology this phenomenon is called a “self fulfilling prophecy” and “confirmation bias.” Love is conditional and unconditional. Human beings love conditionally, usually, and God loves unconditionally. We could love unconditionally too, like God, but we don’t want to because of our fears.

In Unitarian Universalism some of us covenant together to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person. In applying this principle we strive to love unconditionally.

Today it is suggested that we turn our fears over to the Holy Spirit so that we can love the way God does.
