Are we a body or a mind?

Only the mind can create because spirit has already been created, and the body is a learning device for the mind. Learning devices are not lessons in themselves. Their purpose is merely to facilitate learning. T-2.IV.3:1-3 A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

There is a lot of emphasis in our culture on the body. Is it attractive, fit, fashionable? The Course teaches that the body is a learning device at the service of the mind. The body is the form that the Holy Spirit takes in an incarnation in a particular way. The form doesn’t really matter. It is the content that matters. The body is a drop of the ocean. The drop emerges from the whole. Because of emergence from the whole, the drop is holy.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested that we improve our conscious contact with God. This implies that we detach our identification from the body and focus on the spirit within which is part of something Transcendent.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote love for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. It is the interdependent web which is important. Our mind is a part of the whole and therefore is holy.

Today, we are reminded that we are not bodies with a soul, but a soul with a body. Peace is experienced when we get our awareness into appropriate focus.

Puns

What do you call a pun that's reached maturity?

Fully groan.

Mind over matter.

We have referred to miracles as the means of correcting level confusion, for all mistakes must be corrected at the level on which they occur. Only the mind is capable of error. The body can act wrongly only when it is responding to mis thought. The body cannot create, and the belief that it can, a fundamental error, produces all physical symptoms. T-2.IV.2:3-6 A Course In Miracles

Are we a body with a mind or a mind with a body? There is the cliche, “Mind over matter.” It is common for people to get confused and focus on many aspects of the body thinking that the body is the major source of their identity. We are not our bodies. Jesus demonstrated this when He was executed on the cross. Jesus cooperated with the Romans to allow His body to be executed to demonstrate this point. The Romans killed His body but His mind has continued to influence humanity for over 2,000 years and lives among us up to this day and into our future.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested in step one that we admit that we are not our bodies and that we have lost control of our minds. In step two it is suggested that we come to believe in the power of the mind which is greater than our bodies and acknowledge that it is our minds that can restore us to sanity. In step three it is suggested that we join our mind with the Mind Of God as we understand God.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and  promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person which arises from the mind not from the body. It is in the realm of the mind that we can all join together and everybody can love everybody all the time.

Today, it is suggested that we recognize and acknowledge that we are minds and not bodies. While our bodies are separate in the world of the ego, our minds can be joined in the realm of Spirit.

Puns

Did you hear about the magician who walks down an alley and turns into a bar?

It was a miracle.

Let go and let God

All healing is essentially the release from fear. To undertake this you cannot be fearful yourself. You do not understand healing because of your own fear. T-2.IV.1:7-9 A Course In Miracles.

Modern medicine focuses on the body and its symptoms of illness. It is no longer interested in healing. Physicians have become technicians. Healing is the release from fear. Be Not Afraid.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step three, that we make a decision to turn our willfulness over to the will of God. With this decision and act we are released from fear.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote a respect for the interdependent web of all existence where there is no longer any separation and division but we become One with the All.

Today, we can rise above the world of the ego with all its suffering and anguish and turn to the world of Spirit where there is the healing balm of Unconditional Love free from all scarcity and fears.

Remember you are a child of God.

Whenever you are afraid you are deceived, and your mind cannot serve the Holy Spirit. This starves you by denying you your daily bread. God is lonely without His Sons, and they are lonely without Him. They must learn to look upon the world as a means of healing the separation. The Atonement is the guarantee that they will ultimately succeed.T-2.III.5:9-13

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

When we are afraid we have forgotten who we are. We continue to think we are bodies when we are souls. When we forget our soul we have lost touch with our Divinity. It is time to remember the Atonement which heals the separation so that we become aware that we are One with Everything.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step eleven, that we improve our conscious contact with God through mindfulness, meditation, and prayer.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote a respect for the interdependent web of which we are a part.

Today, when we are anxious we will look into our soul and remember that we have nothing to be afraid of because we are children of God.
