Don’t believe everything you think.

He (Holy Spirit) tells you to return your whole mind to God, because it has never left Him. If it has never left Him, you need only perceive it as it is to be returned. The full awareness of the Atonement, then, is the recognition that the separation never occurred. The ego cannot prevail against this because it is an explicit statement that the ego never occurred. T-6.II.10:5-8

It is written in the Introduction to the Course In Miracles that the Course cannot explain the meaning of Love for Love is indescribable but it can help remove the blocks to the awareness of Love’s presence. In the passage above the idea is described in terms of the separation never really to have occurred but only to be a hallucination brought about by a belief in the ego which also never really occurred.

In Unitarian Universalism some of us join together to affirm and promote the  inherent worth and dignity of every person which does not reside in their egos but in their Oneness with God.

Today it is suggested that we drop our egos and experience our Oneness with All and as the bumper sticker reads, “Don’t believe everything you think.”.

Do we choose what to think?

Question:  As I recall,  Course seems to think it’s up to you what you perceive, that you have a choice. No choice in facts and knowledge but choice in perception.

Answer: Yes the Course does teach a system of mind control.

The first step of the system is to become aware that you do have a choice in what you think.

The Course teaches that we have been conditioned to not know this and even if we become aware of the fact that we have a choice to disregard it or if we don't disregard it to choose the world of the ego over the world of Love. Jesus said the way to the kingdom is "to love as I have loved." Most people have no idea what this means in daily life. It is a choice and it is a practice.

Peace Pilgrim said "I look for the Divine Spark in each person and focus on that." If one does this it changes their reality and brings great peace and joy. This idea is part of the perennial philosophy and it is found in all the major religions. Now it shows up in consciousness research. What about that?

In Unitarian Universalism some of us join together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. One of the results of the application of this principle is to become aware of the fact that we have a choice what we think.

Loving the way God does.

Thoughts begin in the mind of the thinker, from which they reach outward. This is as true of God’s Thinking as it is of yours. Because your mind is split, you can perceive as well as think. Yet perception cannot escape the basic laws of mind. You perceive from your mind and project your perceptions outward. Although perception of any kind is unreal, you made it and the Holy Spirit can therefore use it well. He can inspire perception and lead it toward God. This convergence seems to be far in the future only because your mind is not in perfect alignment with the idea, and therefore does not want it now. T-6.II.9:1-7

The slogans “Perception is reality” and “Be careful what you wish for or are afraid of because that’s what you’ll get.” In psychology this phenomenon is called a “self fulfilling prophecy” and “confirmation bias.” Love is conditional and unconditional. Human beings love conditionally, usually, and God loves unconditionally. We could love unconditionally too, like God, but we don’t want to because of our fears.

In Unitarian Universalism some of us covenant together to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person. In applying this principle we strive to love unconditionally.

Today it is suggested that we turn our fears over to the Holy Spirit so that we can love the way God does.

Extending God’s love in the world.

God created His Sons by extending His Thought, and retaining the extensions of His Thought in His Mind. All His Thoughts are thus perfectly united within themselves and with each other. The Holy Spirit enables you to perceive this wholeness now. God created you to create. You cannot extend His Kingdom until you know of its wholeness. T-6.II.8:1-5

There is a difference between singing alone and singing in a choir. There is a difference between reading a joke and laughing and telling a joke to another person and laughing together. God created human beings as extensions of God’s energy and we become conscious of this Transcendent Source when we manifest its loving energy to other things.

In Unitarian Universalism some of us covenant together to affirm and promote the acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth. These activities of acceptance and encouragement enhance the loving energy in the world.

Today it is suggested that we ask ourselves several times throughout the day, “What would love have me do and do it.

Has the UUA created a circular firing squad?

Wisdom cannot be imparted.

Can you name two people you consider wise?

Wisdom is not a commodity. It is gained through maturity and raising one's level of consciousness. Wisdom is an organic thing not mechanical. It is the result of an evolutionary process.

What are the factors that nurture this kind of growth? Does the application of the principles of Unitarian Universalism nurture the growth of wisdom?

What might be other factors that promote the growth of wisdom?

Be still and know that I am God.

The perfect equality of the Holy Spirit’s perception is the reflection of the perfect equality of God’s knowing. The ego’s perception has no counterpart in God, but the Holy Spirit remains the Bridge between perception and knowledge. By enabling you to use perception in a way that reflects knowledge, you will ultimately remember it. The ego would prefer to believe that this memory is impossible, yet it is your perception the Holy Spirit guides. Your perception will end where it began. Everything meets in God, because everything was created by Him and in Him. T-6.II.7:1-6

Perception and knowledge are two different things. Perception is of the world of the ego and knowledge is of the Kingdom of God. We usually don’t perceive what we know deep down and that’s where the Holy Spirit can help us. The ego doesn’t want us to know God because in this knowing the ego dissolves. In Psalm 46:10 it is written, “Be still and know that I am God.”

In Unitarian Universalism some of us covenant together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. This search will ultimately take us from the world of the ego to the Kingdom of God.

Today it is suggested that we take some time to rest, go inward, and become aware of the Kingdom of God. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help us in this activity. Resting in God is where we belong.
