A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson #209, Review of lesson 189, I feel the Love Of God within me now.

 Lesson #209
I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.
Review of lesson 189 - I feel the Love of God within me now.

We are born like a shining diamond, innocent, pure, brilliant, an extension of our Transcendent Source and then society takes over with its socialization and conditioning and our brilliant diamond becomes encrusted with dirt, slag, mud, rock and our brilliance becomes hidden, buried deep within ourselves, so deep that we not only  don’t see it anymore but aren’t even aware that it exists.

Our challenge in living our lives is to move past these barriers and obstacles and once again become aware of and experience the Love of God which is within us.

In Alcoholics Anonymous, it is suggested in step eleven that we seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with the brilliance of the Love of God within.

In Unitarian Universalism, we covenant together to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person which emanates from the Divine Spark within each of us.

Today, it is suggested that we begin and end our day and several times in between reflecting on the Love of God within us. This requires intention, patience, and a willingness to step back and let God lead the way.

And so it goes ............Observations during the week of March 28 - April 3, 2021

Week of March 28, 2021 - April 3, 2021

When the corruption and unethical behavior of political office holders  is discovered and broadcast to the public it is, in a democracy, always good to ask, “Who elected these people to represent them?”

------------------------------------------

This past week has been for Christians, “Holy Week '' which commemorates Jesus' arrest, trial, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. The point of the story is lost on most people, especially most Christians who interpret the story as a blood sacrifice to appease a wrathful God when it really is about the inconsequential fact of the body’s temporary existence but the eternal power of Love.

--------------------------------

In heavy traffic this past week, two different people paused to let me in ahead of them. How nice is that? It’s the small things that make one hopeful for the human race and the world.

-----------------------------

The spiritual question of the month is “Are you a body with a soul or a soul with a body?” One person answered “both.” Of course, but which point of focus do you think is most important?

--------------------------------------------------

What we are seeing now in the news every day since Trump was voted out of office is the law of Karma being manifested. As mothers, fathers, therapists, teachers, employers, judges have taught, “Behavior has consequences” or more to the point, “What goes around comes around.”

-------------------------------------

Stimulus checks are letting poor people take small short vacations, buy new furniture and TVs and even go gambling at the casinos. Isn’t life grand? Some even are catching up on their back bills and paying their rent ahead a month. The question, of course, is what happens when the stimulus money is gone?

------------------------------------

Unitarian Universalist churches have mistakenly thought that they are social clubs and social justice agencies. They have forgotten or marginalized their primary mission which is to facilitate and nurture spiritual growth.

--------------------

Jesus said so nicely “What does it profit a person if they gain the whole world but lose their soul?” Happens plenty of times every day often to the applause of the audience.

 ---------------------------

A guy said one time, “My body is nothing without me.” Wow…………………….

-------------------------------------

There are winter birds and summer birds and birds passing through in spring and fall. One of the joys of spring is seeing the birds passing through and those that have come north for the summer.

-------------------------

We find it hard to make progress on developing a more just, equal, and compassionate society when we continue to confuse prejudice, discrimination, and systemic racism. While these components interact, they are not the same thing and we would do well to make the distinction when we consider them if we are to improve the quality of life on our planet.

-----------------------

Schooling is not the same thing as education. We are learning more about this difference as a result of schools being shut down during the Covid-19 pandemic.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Being raised a good Catholic boy who was in the seminary for a while, on Friday, I yucked it up good with a joke from my seminary days telling people to have "a good Friday." Have a good Friday on Good Friday, get it?

--------------------------------------

Auditing a course this Spring, 2021 semester at SUNY Brockport entitled "Sociology Goes To The Movies" We have to watch and critique seven films. The first was The Matrix, the second is Crash, and the third is Pocahontas. The point of the class says the instructor is “critical analysis” meaning how do films exemplify sociological concepts and theories? It is interesting how pop culture can be thought to operate at two levels: to entertain, and to socially condition the audience.

A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson #208, Review of lesson 188 - The peace of God is shining in me now.

 Lesson #208
I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.
Review of lesson #188 The peace of God is shining in me now.

We have buried it. It has been conditioned and socialized out of us. Society, the world of ego, has induced us to a loss of memory and sleep when it comes to the awareness of the fact that Love is our natural inheritance. It is there all the time and has been there all along. We have just become distracted and fooled into looking elsewhere for a provider of happiness which has been a lie and an illusion when we had it all the time.

In Alcoholic Anonymous, we are taught in the first three steps to recognize and admit that our life has become unmanageable and the way out of our misery and suffering is to make a decision to turn our will over to our Higher Power to shift from wilfulness to willingness. This shift is what A Course In Miracles calls “a miracle.” Making this decision to turn our willfulness over to the will of our Transcendent Source is what the Course is all about. It is challenging to let go of the conditioning of the ego world and to undo the damage caused by its lies.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the inherent dignity and worth of every person and the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. The inherent worth and dignity of every person comes from the peace of God which shines within each of us and which we all share. Recognizing and acknowledging the peace of God within us we can then share that truth with others and bring about the salvation of the world.

Today, it is suggested that we take fifteen minutes at the beginning and end of the day and many times in between to recognize and acknowledge the fact that the peace of God is shining within me now.

A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson #207, Review of lesson 187, I bless the world because I bless myself.

Lesson #207
I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.
Review of lesson 187 - I bless the world because I bless myself.

The metaphysics of A Course In Miracles teaches that we are all One. To use the vocabulary of the Christian thought system, we are all members of the Body Of Christ. A similar idea of Ralph Waldo Emerson is, what he called, “the oversoul.” Whatever you call this interdependent web of existence, when we bless it, we bless ourselves.

In Alcoholic Anonymous, it is suggested in the twelfth step that we share our recovery with others. It is easy for people to join the recovery community, and all they have to do is want to stop drinking. In a broader sense, the recovery community is open to anybody even if alcohol is not a problem for them, when they want to find a better way to live their lives. Alcoholic Anonymous is the single largest and most effective program of spiritual development in the world.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the love of the interdependent web of all existence of which we all are a part. When we bless one part of the web we bless the whole which makes it holy. “Whole,” “holy,” do you get it?

Today, it is suggested that we take fifteen minutes at the beginning and end of the day and many times in between to remind ourselves that when we bless the world we bless ourselves. Kewl, right?

Spiritual Question of the Month - Am I body with a soul or a soul with a body? This is a foundational question for our experience of life.

 Foundational question

The spiritual question of the month of April, 2021, “Are you a body with a soul or a soul with a body?” is a foundational one, because the answer to this question influences, usually unconsciously, how a person experiences their experience and sees the world. In other words the answer to this question is the foundation for a person’s thought system which contributes either to anxiety and depression or to peace and joy.

We live in a very materialistic age in which we all are led to believe, and children in particular are taught, that material things will make them happy. Parents strive to provide their children with material things and say that they want their children to be “successful” which often means that they will become educated and grow up to get a good job that provides a large salary.

Mother Teresa said one time that while the United States might be the richest country in the world, it is also one of the most spiritually impoverished.

And so, we can question our values that we hold dear and those we teach our children and grandchildren. What do we see as most important, their bodies or their souls? How does this focus influence how we behave and treat others? What are the most important values we have in life? What do we tell ourselves and what do we teach others through our behavior? It all comes down to whether we see ourselves as a body with a soul or a soul with a body.

We know when we make the right choice when we become aware of our mood. Am I anxious and depressed or peaceful and joyful?

A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson #206, Review of #186 - Salvation of the world depends on me.

 Lesson #206
Review of Lesson #186 - Salvation of the world depends on me.
I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.

“Salvation” in A Course In Miracles means healing of the separation from the Oneness. This healing depends on my decision. Do I want the world of the ego or the world of the Spirit, Love?

In Alcoholic Anonymous, it is suggested, in step eleven, that we seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with our Transcendent Source. Good idea, yes?

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote a love for the interdependent web of existence of which we are a part. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts, right?

And so today, it is suggested that we begin and end the day and many times in between remind ourselves that salvation of the world depends on me. The holiness (wholeness) of the world awaits my decision. What will I choose? If I choose for holiness, the world will tempt me to choose otherwise often with its advertisements and enticements and so I must choose over and over and over again.

Spiritual question of the month - April 2021 - Are you a body with a soul or a soul with a body?

This month, April 2021, we are beginning a new feature on UU AWOL entitled, “Spiritual Question Of The Month.” Every month we will have a question pertaining to spiritual ideas and concepts that will be a theme for that month. This month the question is Who do you think you are: a soul with a body or a body with a soul?
