Editor's note:

The drop is blamed on Covid-19 and also infighting in the church over nationalist tendencies and support for Donald Trump and the Trumpists.

Would Jesus ever have supported Donald Trump's misogyny, xenophobia, racism, deceitfulness?

The evangelicals are synonymous with the religious right and as the years have gone by the population has matured and doesn't buy the fear mongering with threats of damnation if participants are not politically correct.

There are about 14 million Southern Baptists in 2020 down from 16.3 million in 2006 when George W. Bush was president.

By way of comparison, Unitarian Universalists has less than 200,000 members in the U.S, currently.
