Universalism teaches that God loves us unconditionally

Those who witness for me are expressing, through their miracles, that they have abandoned the belief in deprivation in favor of the abundance they learned belongs to them. T-1.IV.4:8

Oh my golly now here is one great statement. If we are to witness for Jesus we have to abandon our belief in conditional love and shift to the belief in unconditional love.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step twelve, that we share our spiritual awakening which the Course calls “miraculous” with others and that we practice our awakening in all our affairs.

Universalism’s main idea is that God loves us unconditionally. This is a major departure from the teachings of mainline Christianity. Are UUs Christian? No. They don’t believe in the primary doctrine of Christianity which is that Jesus died to appease a god made angry and punitive by our sins and therefore demanded a blood sacrifice. The Universalists questioned this teaching by asking “What kind of a small minded god is this that these Christians believe in?”

Today, this verse reminds us that Unitarian Universalism is a step forward in the evolutionary search for the Transcendent Source which is the ground of our being. We can rest in peace and joy knowing that our understanding of God is that God loves God’s creation unconditionally..
