Stop with the bullshit.

Whatever is true is eternal, and cannot change or be changed. Spirit is therefore unalterable because it is already perfect, but the mind can elect what it chooses to serve. The only limit put on its choice is that it cannot serve two masters. T-1.V.5:1-3 A Course In Miracles.

We try all the time to serve two masters and then wonder why our lives are a mess. They are a mess because we hide from the truth and relish our biases. We are not interested in truth but in the confirmation of our biases. Confirmation of our biases decreases our anxiety while a lack of confirmation increases our anxiety. The psychologists call this “confirmation bias.” We are looking constantly for evidence that agrees with our beliefs. We are terrified to have to change our minds.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step four, that we do a fearless moral inventory. This terrifies most people because they would have to face up to things they have believed and done that fill them with shame. A “fearless moral inventory” takes great courage and bravery that most people find in short supply.

In Unitarian Universalism we covenant together to affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. The sticking point in this principle is the question of what is “responsible?” One first answer is that “responsible” is the true. We have to be honest and seek the truth, not look for evidence which confirms our preordained beliefs.

Today, we are reassured that the Truth will set us free because it is eternal and unchanging. The only question is are we ready to know it? Seek the truth today and stop with the bull shit.

When everybody loves everybody all the time.

Ultimately, every member of the family of God must return. The miracle calls him to return because it blesses and honors him, even though he may be absent in spirit. “God is not mocked” is not a warning but a reassurance. God would be mocked if any of His creations lacked holiness. The creation is whole, and the mark of wholeness is holiness.T-1.V.4:1-5

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

God is not mocked because God has created us with our natural inheritance intact whether we are conscious of this or not. This paragraph writes that “creation is whole,” the non dualistic Oneness, and therefore is what we call “holy.”

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step eleven, that we improve our conscious contact with God.

In Unitarian Universalism we join together to affirm and promote the love for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Today, using the miracle, we shift our perception from the world of the ego and conditional love to the world of Spirit and unconditional love. The Atonement will have come when everybody loves everybody all the time.

Do you believe in God?

An acquaintance I would have coffee with from time to time and who seemed to be someone I'd like to become better friends with asked me, "Dave, do you believe in God?"

I said, "Depends on what God you're referring to."

He ended our conversation and never talked to me again.

Do Unitarian Universalists believe in God? Some do, some don't. Belief is God is not required for membership in a UU church whose function is to nurture the spiritual live of its members.

Believe it or not while not religious, most atheists, humanists, secularists have a spiritual life which is not dependent on any belief in a deity.

UU congregations service theists, atheists, and agnostics.

Most people do not make a distinction between religion and spirituality. Some religious people may or may not be spiritual, and some spiritual people may or may not be religious. Spirituality and religion can overlap but they can also be entirely different things.

Do you, or people you know, have a spiritual life but don't identify with any particular religion? If so, what is their spiritual life like and how do they nurture it?

We are holy like everyone else.

The specialness of God’s Sons (daughters) does not stem from exclusion but from inclusion. All my brothers (sisters) are special. If they believe they are deprived of anything, their perception becomes distorted. When this occurs the whole family of God, or the Sonship,(Personship) is impaired in its relationships. T-1.V. 3:5-8 A Course In Miracles.

The children of God are each special and unique and have been created for a purpose which is to complement the whole. Each has a function to perform in bringing about the Atonement. Each is a drop in the ocean. Each drop is the ocean..

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step eleven, that we improve our conscious contact with God by recognizing that we are not separate but a part of the oceanic consciousness of our Transcendent Source.

In Unitarian Universalism we affirm and promote the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Today it is suggested that we contemplate  the paradox that our specialness comes from being a part of the whole which makes us holy like everybody else.

Where there is only love.

The basic decision of the miracle-minded is not to wait on time any longer than is necessary. Time can waste as well as be wasted. The miracle worker, therefore, accepts the time-control factor gladly. He recognizes that every collapse of time brings everyone closer to the ultimate release from time, in which the Son and the Father are One. Equality does not imply equality now. When everyone recognizes that he has everything, individual contributions to the Sonship will no longer be necessary.T-1.V.2:1-6

A Course in Miracles . Foundation for Inner Peace. Kindle Edition.

What’s time got to do with it? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. In the world of the ego there is time, but in the world of Spirit there is none.

What we yearn for whether we know it or not is the release from time. In the world of time it seems that there is never enough of it or there is way too much of it. In the world of the ego which is the world of scarcity, the ego likes to complain that there is never enough time or too much.

In the world of Spirit there is no scarcity because everything is complete. God and we are One. There no longer is any need for time.

In Alcoholics Anonymous, in step eleven, it is suggested that we improve our conscious contact with God, that we become miracle minded, and in this space time stands still.

In Unitarian Universalism, unconditional love is the desired state of consciousness and in this space there is no time. Time becomes irrelevant. There is no before or after, there is only now.

Today, it is recommended that we stop and just breathe. It is suggested that we rise above the madness of our daily life and reflect on the big picture where there is only Love.

Universalism teaches that God loves us unconditionally

Those who witness for me are expressing, through their miracles, that they have abandoned the belief in deprivation in favor of the abundance they learned belongs to them. T-1.IV.4:8

Oh my golly now here is one great statement. If we are to witness for Jesus we have to abandon our belief in conditional love and shift to the belief in unconditional love.

In Alcoholics Anonymous it is suggested, in step twelve, that we share our spiritual awakening which the Course calls “miraculous” with others and that we practice our awakening in all our affairs.

Universalism’s main idea is that God loves us unconditionally. This is a major departure from the teachings of mainline Christianity. Are UUs Christian? No. They don’t believe in the primary doctrine of Christianity which is that Jesus died to appease a god made angry and punitive by our sins and therefore demanded a blood sacrifice. The Universalists questioned this teaching by asking “What kind of a small minded god is this that these Christians believe in?”

Today, this verse reminds us that Unitarian Universalism is a step forward in the evolutionary search for the Transcendent Source which is the ground of our being. We can rest in peace and joy knowing that our understanding of God is that God loves God’s creation unconditionally..
